A really hearty cheap breakfast burrito filled with refried beans, scrambled eggs and cheese, $3.95. They use the yucky orange greasy cheese, so I suggest you have them leave that off. Grab some salsa in the cooler on the counter and you are good to go. The staff is extremely efficient, no chit chat here, probably due to the brisk biz. This burrito will keep your engine running till way past noon.

Nico's food was good. Can't say us was great because I'v had better fast food Mexican b4. The place was not very clean. The floor was sticky and plastic utensil were dusty.

Basic mexican fast food joint. Fast, cheap, and might mess your stomach up. Their tortillas or too dry sometimes. I like their rolled tacos. The carne isn't a wow. The staff is always friendly and fast so that's a plus. I even order ahead sometime and that's easy.

There are plenty of Mexican eateries out there, but this is my favorite. Okay, maybe not my 1 and only, but I would eat here 1 meal a day if I could (but I can't, because what I order and add to my food is horribly unhealthy...) Last year, I would grab 1 of their MASSIVE breakfast burritos every couple of months on my way to work, and those days were definitely my most memorable days working at that office job. For starters, I remember the amazing flavors that these days brought me. Egg, steak, chorizo, cheese, bacon, potato, salsa, bea... wait... let me stop right there. Salsa. Yes, the ultimate burrito, taco and pretty much anything else condiment. I LOVE salsa. I love Taco Bell sauce packets, I love Tapatío and I love Nico's green & red salsa cups. Do I love them too much? Yes. Yes I do, because what I remember most about these days at work when I would pick up a massive breakfast burrito was the burning lunch hour... It's not Nico's fault, trust me. Their food is amazing, and their salsa, well... I am proud to say it's still my favorite. However, please, when you decide to add 12+ cups of their delectable devil spit to your meal, think twice. think 2 times. 2 times... number 2..... the "flavor" is alot less enjoyable coming out than when it went it. With all that said, my only regret is that I moved from Tucson. Otherwise you know where I would be! (at Nico's, not the bathroom you freak.)

Every Time I am in town in do stop buy here. Very simple and fast food. Breakfast burritos are good and BIG! Usually split! Sometimes they just make it to fast and have had issues nothing that was not okay to eat though. Just made fast and no appreciation for what I was looking forward too. Lunch Carne Asada is my fav. I do enjoy this place and make a point to stop by as there is not much else to choose from in the area for quick food.

This is hands down the best Nico's in the valley " Campbell and Blacklidge" a close second. The location is small but clean. The offerings are fresh and plentiful as well as HOT " Temprature wise". Its a burrito shop so I wont go in depth on all the menu items but they are tasty and made with care. But I will say the California burrito is my fave. Keep up the good work Nico's of Oro Valley!

Gringo tacos. Visiting from Texas I guess I was expecting soft corn tortillas with grilled chicken and onions, cilantro and chiles. Nope. Crispy taco shells like your high school cafeteria served in the 70s up north, and stewed chicken which actually wasn't bad. But then comes the cascade of shredded lettuce and gross yellow cheese that Mexicans seem to think gringos love. Hell maybe some do. I'm not one of them. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things.

Worst place on customer service, food is ok but service sucks, I usually go eat at night but this morning the lady told me that if I was expecting the same service that I should come at night :/

This place is always good for a quick Mexican fix! The shredded beef tacos are always perfect and crunchy and topped with lots of cheese. Every time I am in AZ we have to stop by and get some! Great prices, great beans and great hot sauce... not much more I can say!

I went back to Nico's for a second try and I must say that I was pleased by the improvement. My husband had the Green Chile with Tortillas and the sauce was phenomenal- my only complaint is that this is a pork only dish because I think they slow cook the sauce with the pork at the same time. I had the Chicken Tacos and they were tasty with a good heat and flavor to them. One consideration the menu does not describe the items in question so you will have to ask if you have any dietary restrictions.

Horrible. This is the epitome of what i used to eat at 3 am after a night of drinking when I didn't care what it was. Not only is this sloppy Mexican(ish) food, but I was sick to my stomach afterward. No idea why anyone would give it high ratings. They must be friends or a marketing company.....yuck.

  • Shannon R.

Asked what they would recommend and the first on the list was the carne asada. Pico de gallo, steak and guacamole. Huge burrito and I thought maybe I'd easy 1/4of it. So good. ..I ate it all in one sitting.

Seriously?!? How does this place not have 5 stars!?! The staff is super nice. The food is amazing. My staple is the chimichanga with the sauce on the side...it is life changing. Quesadillas are very good and HUGE. Chips and cheese or the nachos supreme are also amazing. Check it out, you will not be disappointed!!

  • Christine P.

Great value for the price, steak and egg breakfast burrito and carne asada burrito are both great. Not the #1 best cheap Mexican I've ever had, but really pretty good.

  • Jason M.

The food here leaves much to be desired. The burritos are adequate but not good. The tacos seem to be a bit better. The chips and cheese are just chips with shredded, unmelted cheese--not what we expected. The service is ok but they seem to make a lot of mistakes. There are much better choices out there for Mexican food.

  • Karol B.

I think I eat here 2 to 3 days a week....very easy and fast decent food. If you are looking for something quick and that won't cost you and arm and leg then this is your place! Their veggie taco salad is really good and their chips and guacamole is very very very yummy

How can a taco stand mess up carne asada & carnitas? Well this place did. The meat in the carne asada & carnitas burritos was extremely fatty. The carne asada had tough pieces of grisle. Even my 10 & 7 years complained about the food. We did not finish our burritos.

    (1)
  • Miss Mary R.

Still decent food, but they constantly mess up the orders. Check what they give you, it is usually not what you ordered. Of course, they will make it right - AFTER the girl at the register stops texting......Perhaps better management would bring this place back up to its usual standards.

Although I am a fan of Nico's fast, friendly, reliable and delicious fare in general (the Campbell and Ft. Lowell location being a major exception), I dedicate this review, and all of these stars, to Nico's All-Star #1 breakfast burrito, especially as prepared at this location. When I lived in San Diego, this was the last Nico's on my way up to Tangerine and out of town, and the scene of many Last Meals in Tucson. Why is it so good? An ode, or a breakdown: 1. They scramble the heck out of the eggs without compromising moisture and flavor. The result? The eggs are everywhere and nowhere, all at once. Clinging to the bacon, dancing with the cheese, never stealing the show, but without which this burro could not go on. These are the Phillip Seymour Hoffman of breakfast burrito eggs. 2. Bacon. Real, crisp, diced bacon. Delicious, salty, crunchy bacon. Never spongy, fatty, gooey, lardy, or eraser-tough. It's like egg, cheese, and potato distributed bacon confetti instead of rice at the end of their plural marriage ceremony and are now heading for the limo, sprinkled with jubilant bits of porky goodness and ready to party. 3. Cheese. I'm not sure this is actually cheese. It's too yellow, too oily, somewhat flavorless, but an excellent conductor of the myriad salty/fatty flavors happening here. 4. Potatoes. Right on every time. Hot, tender, comforting, bite-size blocks of starchy deliciousness. Well-seasoned, they break up the richness of the burrito and impart a wonderful texture, and they're NOT FRENCH FRIES (I'm giving you the stink eye, creepy-tiki Campbell and Blacklidge location. How dare you incorporate limp, under-cooked FRIES into your burrito. How dare you). This is my favorite breakfast burrito in Tucson, and the folks that work here are great. The guy on the always grill recognizes my husband from the late nineties. Conveniently located in a very-earth toned strip mall across from Oro Valley Public Library, this Nico's is usually pretty quiet and seemingly clean in that overwhelming odor of antiseptic kind of way. Also recommend three rolled tacos with cheese; beans cheese rice & sour cream burrito.

Been here a couple of times. Tried shredded beef enchiladas - very chewy beef and not all that flavorful. The red and green sauce in the cooler is BLAH. Service is efficient and unfriendly. I will go back just to try the breakfast burrito. Prices are reasonable.

what the freak?! you call this a mexican restaurant?! Says who! If you have EVER tasted mexican food, i mean real mexian food, i am sure you'd have to agree with me that this place serves no mexican food. Bland, no kick, i mean come on! I could probably make better mexican food with my feet! My hubby and I came here as it was recommended by our stupid real estate agent. She said it was really good! So we decided to give it a try. We ordered a burrito and tacos. First of all, there was no flavor to it what so ever, I guess you can call that talent, when you cook something and but you can't taste it. So we asked for some hot sauce. The people there looked at us like we were crazy. Then they took out little plastic things with some read substance in it. When we drizzled it all over our taco and burrito...it tasted like watered down hot sauce! I mean come on! We did not finish out food, we threw it in the trash where it belonged and walked out!!! i don't know who nico is but i'm sure he came from new zealand.

Mexican food in Arizona is different than California. In Ca. there are tons of the same style food like Alberto's etc. This taco shop is the closest to that fare as I have found here. There's no drive through at the 2 locations I have been to (Ft. Lowell & Oracle) and they are always busy. I would recommend the California burrito-carne asada potatoes. Our kids always get Bean Rice Cheese burritos and Super Nachos/Fries. We divide all plates into 2 portions because they are so generous. If you miss California fare or just want some good fast Mexican food, this is a good place to go.

Thank God we got another place to eat in Oro Valley! I really don't know why the OV is such a sore spot for food, it's a wealthy area with a huge demand for new restaurants. All of my neighbors agree, we're sick of driving into town for good eats! Nico's Taco Shop isn't exactly a restaurant, it's more of a fast food take-away spot for mexican food, but the food is always fresh and delicious. I'm a huge fan of the breakfast burritos and the carnitas pork burritos. The fare is pretty much the same as you'll find at other Tucson-location Nico's shops, so no surprises there. The shop is usually clean and smells like a mexican restaurant should. The only thing I don't like about this place is they're not the friendliest folk. One funny note, whenever I come late at night (9pm or later), and my headlights pull into the shop, I see several kitchen staff pop up from the floor and start walking around the kitchen, looking busy. I guess they take naps on the floor when there's no business...

Been here a few times and sometimes it's a hit or miss with food. i've ordered the nacho's and they are always cold??? and can the staff really not talk? i've never heard any of them actually talk to a customer.... seriously right now? a simple hello or thanks for coming goes a long way fellas...

  • Tom W.

Right up front, their standard fair leaves much to be desired...the food is pretty plain and I don't recommend the normal menu. However, they have THE best breakfast burritos around! They are large, fresh cooked, stuffed with egg, bacon, cheese, and potatoes (the #1 anyway) and the price can't be beat. If you want coffee or juice, you will need to bring it with you or get it somewhere else. The service is quick with little conversation. So for breakfast, this is the place to go...even the firefighters eat here!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
